Sharjah Ruler approves two new stadia atop Khorfakkan, Kalba mountains
Sharjah’s Ruler, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, has sanctioned the construction of two new stadiums on the elevated peaks of Khorfakkan and Kalba mountains. The stadium for Kalba Club will sit at 850 feet above sea level, while Khorfakkan Club’s stadium will be at 900 feet.
Highlighting the significance of club emblems as representations of local identity, Sheikh Sultan introduced the “Sharjah Scientific Complex” project. This initiative will house 10,000 personally curated books, aiming to present history, arts, and sciences in an innovative manner.
Speaking on the Sharjah Radio and TV’s program “Direct Line,” Sheikh Sultan extended congratulations to Sharjah clubs that persevered in the ADNOC Pro League. He emphasized upcoming awards for their achievements and ongoing efforts to enhance facilities, starting with improvements around Kalba Club and plans for Khorfakkan Club’s new stadium.
Regarding cultural preservation, Sheikh Sultan underscored the importance of maintaining local heritage, exemplifying this through initiatives like the Al Wousta TV station in Al Dhaid. He stressed the role of such platforms in safeguarding Bedouin culture and dialects.
Describing the Sharjah Scientific Complex’s role, Sheikh Sultan emphasized its focus on science and heritage, distinct from the archival focus of the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre. The complex will facilitate easy access to its extensive collection and provide printed materials as needed.
Reflecting on his personal motivation for the project, Sheikh Sultan recounted his contribution of 10,000 volumes following a fire at the Egyptian Scientific Institute in Cairo, expressing hopes for the institute’s recovery and resilience.
Overall, Sheikh Sultan’s initiatives underscore Sharjah’s commitment to sports, culture, and scholarly pursuits, reinforcing the emirate’s identity and community priorities.
