HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer Inspects Developments at Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), recently evaluated the advancements of the sixth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, a 1,800MW project constructed under the independent power producer (IPP) framework with investments reaching up to AED 5.5 billion. Recognized as the largest single-site solar park globally, this initiative underscores Dubai’s commitment to sustainable energy.

The solar park aligns with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, aiming to source 100% of Dubai’s power capacity from renewable energy by 2050. These IPP-based projects, spearheaded by DEWA, play a pivotal role in realizing these ambitious goals.

During the visit, Al Tayer was joined by Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, as well as senior DEWA officials and engineers. Representatives from Shuaa Energy 4 updated Al Tayer on the sixth phase, which is 53% complete. Of the total 1,800MW capacity, 600MW is already operational.

This phase incorporates cutting-edge bifacial solar photovoltaic technology with single-axis tracking systems. Once fully operational, it will supply clean energy to around 540,000 households and cut annual carbon emissions by approximately 2.36 million tonnes. The project covers an area of 20 square kilometers.

Currently, the solar park boasts a production capacity of 3,460MW, with an additional 1,200MW in development. By 2030, its total capacity is projected to hit 7,260MW, accounting for roughly 34% of Dubai’s energy mix from clean sources.
