Empower signs new agreement with Mitsubishi to supply advanced chillers with a total capacity up to 100,000 RT

Empower has entered into a new agreement with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems to provide advanced chillers with a total capacity of up to 100,000 Refrigeration Tons (RT). Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower), recognized as the largest district cooling services provider globally, formalized this partnership on October 8, 2024, in Dubai, with signatures from H.E. Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, and Mr. Yoshihiro Ito, President of MHI Thermal Systems, attended by representatives from both organizations.

As per the agreement, MHI Thermal Systems will deliver 18 state-of-the-art and energy-efficient water-cooled centrifugal chillers amassing 56,250 RT starting in 2025. These chillers will be employed in Empower’s district cooling projects in Dubai, including the Deira Waterfront Development, Jumeirah Village, and Al Sufouh. Additionally, the agreement allows Empower to increase its order by December 31, 2024, potentially scaling the capacity to the full 100,000 RT.

This collaboration is the second of its kind between the two parties, following a 2021 deal for chillers that were delivered in 2022 and 2023 for Empower’s various cooling plants, including those in Za’abeel and Business Bay. Empower reiterates its commitment to advancing its infrastructure by integrating cutting-edge technologies to better serve its diverse client base across residential, commercial, healthcare, educational, and mixed-use sectors in Dubai.

Ahmad Bin Shafar highlighted that this deal represents a significant milestone for both companies, facilitating progress in the district cooling industry and promoting a shift towards a carbon-neutral future through energy-efficient solutions. He emphasized that these innovations align with Empower’s mission to update its plants using environmentally sustainable technologies that support the company’s broader ecological and societal goals.

Mr. Yoshihiro Ito of MHI Thermal Systems shared his pride in supporting Empower’s initiatives, emphasizing their shared commitment to enhancing energy efficiency and aligning with Dubai’s vision to reduce energy and water usage by 30% by 2030, contributing to the UAE’s carbon reduction goals.

Following the agreement signing, Empower conducted a tour of the Business Bay district cooling plant for the MHI Thermal Systems team. The plant, known for achieving the Guinness World Record for its district cooling capacity, exemplifies Empower’s dedication to delivering sustainable and eco-friendly services that benefit the UAE’s transition to a green economy.
